One Week, 7 Hairstyles

Don't you just hate those days, staring in the mirror and looking back at dull, drab, boring hair? I know I do. We all lack a bit of hair-spiration from time to time so I've created a challenge: A week of hairstyles. Simple, quick and easy hairstyles. So go on, give it a go!

Monday - Half up Half down
This quick and easy style looks chic and stylish. This versatile hairstyle looks great with any type of hair; curly, wavy or straight.

Tuesday - Poker Straight
It's time for the hair straighteners. This look is great for the work place and can be softened up with a hair accessory. Channel Gossip Girl style by accessorizing with a colourful hair band.

Wednesday - Low ponytail
A low ponytail looks sleek and professional whilst remaining light and fun.Wrap the extra strand around the bobble and secure with a bobby pin for an extra savvy look.

Thursday - Sleek bun
Get out the hairspray, it's time for a sleek bun. Wear it high or low, your choice. This look is super quick but looks super classy.

Friday - Waves
Get ready for the weekend with some beach-babe waves. Plaiting wet hair, crimpers or even flat irons can create this amazing chilled style.

Saturday - Bouncy curls
It's the weekend, it's time to let your hair down. Soft bouncy curls can go right through from day to night. Use curling tongs or twist a flat iron a bit of mousse and hairspray and you're good to go.

Sunday - Plaits, Plaits, Plaits
Check out the pictures below, YouTube or, to be honest, anywhere on the internet for some amazing braided looks. Anything with braids goes today so it's time to experiment!

Bare Minerals Getting Started Kit Review

I have always wanted to try bareMinerals so I thought the best way to test it out would be to get the Getting Started Kit and I am so glad that I bought this set! I've never tried mineral make-up before and I definitely wasn't disappointed, it's so different to any make-up I've ever tried before. I got the medium version of the kit from feelunique.com for £41.65 (buy it here) which may sound expensive but I think it's amazing value for what it includes.

This kit contains:
- bareMinerals Prime Time Foundation Primer 15ml
- 2 x bareMinerals SPF15 Original Foundation 2g - Medium & Medium Beige
- bareMinerals Original Mineral Veil 2g
- bareMinerals Warmth All-Over Face Colour 1.5g
- bareMinerals Full Flawless Face Brush
- bareMinerals Flawless Application Face Brush
- bareMinerals Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush
- bareMinerals Get Started DVD

Prime Time
This primer is great. It has a very slightly oily texture so the powders cling to it but it's soft and feels great on your skin. The very smallest bit lasts a really long time to I reckon that this tube will last for a very long time. It comes out clear and just feels like the perfect base to apply make up to.

SPF15 Original Foundation
I love these foundations!  I bought the medium version of this kit so I got the foundation in medium and medium-beige. They are great sizes and I think they'll last for ages. One of the things I love most about this set is the 'Click, Lock, Go' sifters (see the picture below) which keeps the mess that I was expecting with a powder based make-up to an absolute minimum. Another thing which I was pleasantly surprised with was that they are great for dry skin! They almost seem creamy once they've been applied to the skin. I was also a bit skeptical about the coverage as I felt that I needed lots of coverage but that is one of the best things about bareMinerals. Rather than cover up your skin they enhance it and just make it look great. You can apply however much you want to achieve the perfect coverage for you.

Warmth
Warmth is basically a bronzer which you apply anywhere light naturally hits your face. It gives a really natural glow to your face and blends amazingly like all the bareMinerals products. I only use a very small amount of this product as a little goes a very long way.

Mineral Veil
This finishing powder basically makes your skin look flawless. It hides any fine lines and makes the skin look smooth. It's very light so it barely feels like your wearing any make-up and it's long lasting. I feel that it doesn't hide shiny skin very well so I apply a different powder over on my nose. This powders turns translucent so there would be no point doing a swatch.

Brushes
The brushes that came with this set are absolutely fantastic. They are perfect for the products, I don't think the products would be anywhere near as effective if I used different brushes. I use the full flawless face brush for the foundations and the mineral veil, the flawless face brush for the warmth and the max coverage concealer brush to apply the foundation in any areas I want slightly more coverage

Another aspect of this product that is brilliant in that it comes with so much direction. The DVD that comes with it is great as it clearly demonstrates the technique to use to make the most of the products.

Final Verdict: I LOVE this set and would recommend it to anyone. It may be expensive but definitely worth the money for what you get. If you haven't tried mineral make-up before its definitely different but really great to use

Do you have a similar or different experience with this set? Do you have any tips for  how I could use it? Any questions on any of the products?

American Flag Studded Shorts DIY

I was seeing American flag print shorts everywhere however they were all way out of my price range. Despite how amazing they are my budget will simply not stretch to $162 for RunwayDreamz American flag print shorts so, inspired by various online tutorials, I decided to embark on my first ever DIY fashion project.

What you need
 - Shorts. I bought a pair of cheap Levi shorts off eBay. I reckon they were previously jeans and had simply been cut but they worked fine.

- American flag print material. I used an American flag bandana which, again, I bought off ebay.

- Studs. I went for a pack of 100 7mm pyramid studs. They have 4 spikes which you simply push through the shorts and the bend them over to keep them in place. They costed about £3 off ebay

- The last thing you need is some fabric glue. I used Aleene's 'OK To Wash-It' glue which I bought off ebay for about £5 as I had seen in recommended in tutorials

Step One: I started off by studding my shorts. This was really easy as you simply just pushed the studs through the denim. I used the back of a spoon to push down the spikes at the back to protect my fingers from being ripped to shreds. I chose to cover a front pocket in studs and create a studded pattern on one of the back pockets however you can do any design you'd like. Experiment!

Step two: Apply the fabric. This step was more difficult. I chose to clue on the fabric rather than sew it just to make it a bit easier. I used a piece of tracing papers and did a rough outline around the shape of each side of the shorts. I then cut out the same shape out of the American flag bandana except I made it slightly bigger. I then spread the glue all over the shorts and stuck on the fabric. I folded the edges under and glued them down to make a smoother edge.

Step Three: Finishing touches. I used scissors to cut a rip out of my shorts and used sandpaper to fray the edges of the rip however this didn't go as planned and the edges didn't fray easily due to the glue. I frayed the bottom of the shorts using sandpaper to give a slightly more distressed look and then I folded up the bottom. Voila. Your shorts are complete.

Three ways to wear denim shorts

I live in denim shorts during summer. There is nothing more versatile and comfortable. They can be dressed up or down, worn to a party or on a walk, the list goes on.... Here are three ways of wearing the ultimate summer item

1. Simple cami
This look is very simple but can look sophisticated if it's done right. It's perfect for hot summer days spent lounging by the pool, in the park or even listening to bands at a music festival

2. Crop top
Crop tops and bralets are everywhere this season. This look is great for parties and its also perfect for the beach as its easy to pull on over a bikini.

3) Baggy shirt

A light floaty shirt looks great with a pair of denim cutoffs. It instantly makes the look feminine and stylish.

Benefit Confessions of a Concealaholic Review

With busy jobs and busy social lives, who really has time to sleep anymore? However with little sleep comes lots of problems, one of these being dark under eye circles. When I found 'Confessions of a Concealaholic' I was hoping I'd found a solution to this problem

This kit contains:
- "that gal" brightening face primer
- Erase Paste concealer
- Boi-ing concealer (in 2 different shades)
- Lemon Aid colour correcting eyelid primer
- Eye Bright eye brightener

So really this is a 5-in-1 review

1) "that gal" brightening face primer
I was quite surprised but this was probably my favourite product of the kit. I found that it really does brighten up the face and create a nice base for applying make up. I was expecting it to have a similar texture to 'Dr feelgood complexion balm' but it has a really nice texture, not powdery at all. I'm not sure if it made my makeup last any longer but it creates a nice dewy finish to your make up.

2) Erase Paste concealer
This was the product I was most disappointed with out of the Confessions of a Concealaholic set. After reading lots of reviews I expected it to completely hide any dark circles however when I got it it really didn't do much in terms of coverage. It didn't last particularly long and I found that I ended up putting my trusty Rimmel London Match Perfection concealer over the Erase Paste which disappointed me. The colour was slightly too dark for my skin tone which is probably part of the problem so I may try it in a lighter shade in the future.

3) Boi-ing concealer
This comes in two shades which is great for different skin tones and you can mix them together to get the exact colour you want. It had a nice texture and had better coverage than Erase Paste. It still didn't completely hide dark circles but it is good at covering blemishes. I may consider buying the full sized product however it definitely isn't the perfect concealer

4) Lemon Aid colour correcting eyelid primer

This was another product I was pleasantly surprised with. I never really felt the need to purchase an eyelid primer however this definitely changed my view. Lemon Aid really does do what it says. It hides all redness and provides a nice base for long lasting eyeshadow.

5) Eye Bright eye brightenener I really don't know what do think about this product. You put a bit of the product on the inside of your eyes and it wakes up your face and brightens up your eyes. It's a nice texture and seems to be long lasting however I'm not sure I see the point of it. A bit of white eyeshadow can do the exact same job for much cheaper.

Overall I have mixed views about the Confessions of a Concealaholic kit. Some definite pros are "that gal" and lemon aid. The brushes are relatively good quality and they are each labelled for the product they are to be used for which is useful. The kit is a useful size and easy to carry around and so far it seems that the products are a good enough size to last long enough. However I would say the main disadvantages are the actual concealers which are nice to use but not the best I've tried.

Top 5: Spring 2012 Nail Polishes

Amchoor - Nars
Yellow nail polish is right on trend this season. I find yellow to be quite a tricky nail colour to get right but I think this bright shade by Nars is perfect for any occasion
Navigate her - Essie
This pistachio-green polish is perfect for spring! This fresh shade would suit everyone and was seen in many collections this season

May - Chanel
I adore this soft baby-pink shade from Chanel. Its a bright and a fun colour to wear. Pink is my ultimate favourite colour of nail polish and this creamy polish looks amazing on.
Razzmatazz - Topshop
I am kinda in love with this nail polish. It's an slightly lilac polish with lilac and holographic glitter. It looks amazing both on its own and as a top coat. Really, really want this but can't seem to find it anywhere!
Orange, It's Obvious - Essie
Another Essie shade, this time a bright, outspoken orange. This colour would look amazing with a tan. Definitely one to go right through Spring and into Summer!
